The Mother had Herself spelt out the layout for Lakshmi's House, marking out the room meant for the Library after looking at photographs taken by Pradyot da.

Today the Public Library has approximately 8400 titles. Apart from the works of The Mother and Sri Aurobindo, the Library also has books on religion, literature, philosophy etc.
